Mission Statement

The New Zealand Comedy Guild (Auckland) was established in March 1999 to promote and protect the interests of the professional stand-up comedians and live comedy performers in New Zealand’s entertainment industry.

Membership Fee

The Annual Membership Fee is $30.00, payable to the NZ Comedy Guild Inc.  The Guild is a not-for-profit organisation. Fees are used to cover administration costs and for special projects that benefit the membership as a whole.

Industry Relations

The NZ Comedy Guild has established relationships with other branches of the industry - the Laugh! Festival (who administer the annual comedy festival), Phoenix Television (who produces Pulp Comedy, the Gala and other comedy events for television), comedy.co.nz ltd (the company run by Scott Blanks to programme comedy at the Classic Comedy & Bar), the Classic Company (who runs the Classic venue), the Comedy Agency (who produces live comedy for the corporate world) and other producers of comedy.  The Guild offers a unified voice for comedians in their communications with these other branches of the industry.  The Guild also offers its support to private applications to other funding bodies such as Creative New Zealand and various local body organisations.

Networking Within the Industry

The Guild offers a system for comedians to communicate with each other by:

  • regularly updating and publishing a database of comedians throughout the country
  • emailing regular newsletters to members
  • holding Guild meetings to allow for an open forum for discussion on any issues that members wish to raise.
  • providing a website (www.nzcomedyguild.org.nz) for comedians and punters to keep in touch with industry news.
